When thinking of Greece, images of historic architecture, sandy beaches, and balmy weather come to mind. There is good reason for us to envision all of these things because much of it is based in reality. Combine the Mediterranean climate with all that Greece has to offer and you have a welcome respite from your troubles. While there, you have to experience Greece’s must see tourist attractions.

Possibly the most recognized feature of Greece is the Acropolis. This ancient city is a testament to perseverance in the face of war and passing time. High on a hill, it presents a breathtaking vista from afar and veritably glows in the setting sun. The most distinct aspect of the Acropolis is arguably the Parthenon. Built in dedication to the Greek goddess Athena, this beautiful example of Doric architecture beckons tourists with its grandiose allure and deep-rooted history. Carvings upon the structure known as metopes depict various battles and incidents derived from Greece’s past.

A Greek vacation should also include a trip to the island of Crete. It was here, centuries ago, that the Minoans established a hub of their society. This is recognized by many historians as the first true bed of civilization. Chania is one of Crete’s largest cities, and it offers visitors a look into the history of this part of the world. The buildings and homes here date all the way back to the Venetian era. And just on the outskirts of Chania are found some of the islands most spectacular beaches. Swimmers and sunbathers are not limited to the beaches here, though, as plenty of spans of beautiful sand are found all over Crete.

Every summer season, Greece is host to the Hellenic Festival. This is a celebration of the arts that has become one of the most important events in the entire country. Music and dance abounds at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus Theatre as performers from all over the world entertain the crowds. During the Hellenic Festival, lovers of popular music can take in a concert atop Lykavittos Hill, while theater enthusiasts will find a wonderful show at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. The Little Theatre of Epidaurus cannot be forgotten, as it hosts entertaining plays as well.

People of all kinds find Greece to be the ideal vacation spot. From sun and sand to music and history, the country has something for everyone. Its eclectic entertainment opportunities make Greece second to none.
