Imagine That ! Working For A Parking Company That No Longer Need Their Services.

August 28th, 2010

Imagine that ! Two men, not so young any more but not yet middle aged. they had been working for an long stay parking company which no longer requires their services. They find alternative employment but are left feeling frustrated. They loved their previous jobs, they knew how to satisfy their customers and enjoyed a sense of fulfilment.

So they take a gamble and set up on their own. They find premises and clean and paint their small office. They work from dawn till dusk to bring in the business. They find drivers, some reliable and others not so. The journey is long and difficult. As with all new businesses they are thwarted along the way. But when things get tough the tough get going. They establish a good rapport with their now growing clientele, most of whom are corporate business men and women. If a driver lets them down or is ill , either one of these men will get out of bed in the dead of night to accommodate the needs of a customer. One of the wives then joins the team and works non-stop in the office.

Word of mouth is the best form of advertisement and they subsequently take over another company, which mainly deals with the leisure market . They move to a larger office and it’s all hands on deck. Cleaning, painting and general sprucing up. More drivers are brought in. Things are looking up, then the recession kicks in. No matter, these guys are determined not to be outdone. They work even longer hours.

They now decide to have their drivers wear a uniform. They introduce a vehicle cleaning service. Morale is good and the staff have caught on to the enthusiasm. The drivers, by now familiar with each other, occasionally even go into the office when they know they might not be needed; they all enjoy the camaraderie.

Not only does this company look after its own; they recently helped rescue people left stranded by the ash cloud debacle.

The name of this company is Star Parking. And they are stars. They will not let you down. If you have a disability one of their cheerful and friendly drivers will be on hand to help, with a trolley ready and waiting. In their hands you are safe.

So when you next book a flight and don’t want any stress , just remember – Star Parking Meet and Greet Heathrow fits the bill.

Tunisia – A Short Cultural Guide For Tourists

August 27th, 2010

Tunisia, in northeastern Africa is a beautiful country to visit: a country of spices and flowers, ancient history, friendliness, wonderful hotels, restaurants and first class airports.

Tunisia is blessed with a wonderful climate and a scenic coastline. It is bordered by the Mediterranean on the north and east and Libya, to the southeast and Algeria to the west. Many civilizations and empires have passed through Tunisia, leaving their footprint along the way. Tunisia has been home to the Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Turks, Spanish and French. Today’s Tunisians live in a culture that reflects the passage of all of these people through their country.

Tunisia’s long and colorful history is preserved in the many hundreds of historical sites and museums that dot the country. The enormous National Museum of Bardo (near Tunis) was a 13th century palace and has been expanded over time so that it’s now a an amazing example of 17th and 18th century Arab architecture and interior décor. It boasts vaulted ceilings, galleries and cupolas. It also houses the finest collection of mosaics in the world! The Carthage Museum is famed for its excellent collection of Roman and Punic artifacts, including items that would have been used in everyday life. The extensive display of jewelry must not be missed. There is also an extremely distinctive display of Punic masks made of colored glass paste.

The Dar Ben Abdallah Museum of Traditional Arts and Customs, in Tunis, can be found on the ground floor of the 18th century Dar Ben Abdallah Palace. It is in the medina, the center of old Tunis. This museum is famed for its displays of traditional Tunisian arts as well as its exhibits of the customs of the city of Tunis. Most museums in Tunisia are closed on Mondays. Tunisia is a land of festivals. Every city and village, no matter how large or small, hosts festivals to which visitors are welcome. The Saharian Festival celebrates the vast expanses of the Sahara. It is in Douz and occurs during the second week of November. If you are a devotee of world class music, don’t miss the International Music Festival at the El Jem Coliseum from mid-July to mid-August. What could be lovelier than listening to world famous orchestras and artists on a warm Tunisian evening under the stars in a Roman coliseum?

The most important component of Tunisian family cuisine is its breads! Country breads, found in smaller villages, are usually unleavened and baked in domed, clay ovens called tabounas. Bread is a staple at every Tunisian meal and everyplace in Tunisia has its own special breads. Other than bread, lamb is the meat that is often most eaten at family meals. Tunisians eat a lot of seafood, olive oil and salads and flavor them with all manner of herbs and spices including cumin, coriander, garlic, parsley, dried peppers and other savory delights! Tunisians are fans of hot and spicy food and often harissa, a hot condiment, is served “on the side” in consideration of visitor’s tastes. And for dessert – Turkish baklava, layers of crispy pastry nuts and cinnamon, all soaked in honey syrup, is a treat not to be missed.

Tunisia is a world-class destination for your world-class holiday!

Aussie Micronations

August 25th, 2010

Great Australians in history. A problematic job for any scholar. To start with, of course, one must contemplate exactly what it is that makes one an Australian. Is Zalman Silber an Australian? He is actually a New Yorker, but responsible for one of Sydney’s most breathtaking attractions, the Skywalk, not to mention one of Melbourne’s, too, called The Edge. The former is pretty much a glass-floored catwalk a thousand feet above ground that offers visitors not only a bird’s-eye view of Sydney but a bird’s-nerve feel, too, what with gusting winds necessitating cable tethers for visitor safety. The latter is a glass enclosure that juts out from the top of the Eureka Tower, providing stunning panoramic views every which way you look.

Both are outstanding attractions for their cities, taking in tourist dollars by the fistful every day. Does that make Zalman Silber a great Australian? Does that make him Australian at all? After all, he’s just a businessman – but the bottom line is that he has benefited Sydney and Melbourne tremendously, providing employment and tax revenue while bolstering the cities’ worldwide profile.

So just what makes for an Australian? Many are those who have only been born in Australia but really made their mark elsewhere. Then there are those who also denigrate their country of origin, Australia, but are still, in the final analysis, considered Australians. Even someone like Rupert Murdoch, who renounced his Australian citizenship in order to advance certain business interests of his, is still thought as Australian!

Indeed, one Leonard Casley even went so far as to secede his ranch from Australia and go on to declare war on Australia! It’s no joke: the Principality of Hutt River actually issues its own visa (hours of operation are ten to four) and postage. And Hutt River isn’t the only micronation on the island-continent; Australia also hosts – if that is the right word – the Province of Bumbunga, the Sovereign State of Aeterna Lucina, the Grand Duchy of Avram, the Independent State of Rainbow Creek, the Empire of Atlantium, the Principality of Marlborough, the Principality of Snake Hill, the Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands, the United Federation of Koronis (which is merely based in Australia, claiming sovereignty only over the Koronis Family of Asteroids), and the Principality of Ponderosa. In fact, most of the world’s modern-day micronations are to be found in Australia!

So what makes for a great Australian? No one really knows. No one can quite put his or her finger on what makes for an Australian in the first place – not if they really thought about it. But one thing is for sure: people in Australia, whether they consider themselves Australians or not, really prize their independence above all else!
