One final great holiday destination is the city of Porto, which offers a fun, alternative holiday experience. The city is a European Capital of Culture and offers a cosmopolitan experience that is enhanced by the combination of old, winding streets and new roads throughout the city. It’s the second largest city in Portugal and is in the north of the country. It’s also called the Granite City as so many of its buildings, including some historic churches, are made out of granite and iron. It also offers good wine.
