Choosing a Wedding Location

Exclusive summary about honeymoon by Nicole Lindsey, Claire Bowes, Franz Bonaparta, Diana Valentine

Before planning a wedding, they must decide on a wedding location or at minimum narrow it down to a couple of venues. Attempting to plan a wedding without knowing the location is equivalent to a bride shopping for bridal jewelry without having a wedding dress. Things that need to be considered

How does the location make you feel? Can you imagine your wedding actually taking place in this location?

If you can answer "yes" to each of these questions then you should definitely consider this particular site for your wedding day. However, if you say "no" to any of these internal questions then you should move on to the next place on the list. A bride is better off getting married at home in her wedding gown and bridal jewelry rather than wasting tons of money on the wrong wedding site.

Size
If you plan to invite 500 people to your wedding you should not choose a wedding location with a maximum capacity of 150. After you have decided on the number of guests that you plan to invite you should research two or three wedding locations that will accommodate that amount of people.

Décor
Most brides have specific color schemes in mind as well as ideas for decorations. Unfortunately, some churches do not allow extravagant accessories such as overly elaborate bridal jewelry, flowers, or decorations.

Lighting
Another factor to consider when searching for a location for your wedding is lighting. If you desire a bright and vibrant ambiance to reflect the glow in your eyes, the sparkle in your bridal jewelry, and the hue in your dress, then consider whether the places on your list will meet your needs. It would be in your best interest to visit each location at the time of day in which your wedding will take place. This will give you the opportunity to test the waters before you make a final decision.

The above suggestions are important topics to think about and should not be taken lightly. Just as you might debate for hours or weeks over what bridal jewelry looks best with your wedding dress, you should give your wedding location the same consideration.

Is a Destination Wedding Right for You?

What exactly does “destination wedding” mean? Well, this is the term used for a wedding which takes place in a desired location which is away from the bride and grooms’ home town. The wedding ceremony and reception is held in a location where everyone (including all guests) has to travel to get to the wedding.

Choosing a destination for your wedding is probably the most important wedding planning decision you will have to make. After all, the location of your wedding will dictate many factors of your wedding, including the cost.

Why are destination weddings so popular?

One good reason is that they mean a vacation for everyone involved in the wedding and not just a honeymoon for the bride and groom. Some people keep it small and quiet with just immediate family and friends, while other couples have a huge wedding party traveling with them – it all depends on what you want. A destination wedding is also popular with people getting married for the second or even third time.

Things to consider when planning a destination wedding:

• If wanting a tropical wedding, remember that it will be very hot and you and your partner could feel very uncomfortable in your wedding attire

• Do you want only close family/friends to come with you, or a larger wedding party?

• Can all of your guests afford the travelling expenses?

• Can you afford to pay for your guests to travel?

• Do you want to hold a second reception back home for friends and family that couldn’t travel with you?

• Is privacy important to you? You will be surrounded by your guests for the whole duration of your wedding / honeymoon.

In summary, destination weddings are becoming very popular and because of this there are many travel agents who now specialize in these types of weddings. Make a decision on how large you want your traveling party to be and if your guests can afford it. Make sure to have some kind of understanding with your guests if you want a few days of privacy.

The Inside-Outside Dilemma

Confusing in deciding indoors or outdoors for your wedding? Those outdoor celebrations always look so romantic and beautiful, but if it rains or the weather turns wilting hot, will you be equipped to keep everything dry and comfortable for your guests?

Obviously, weather is one determining factor for deciding if you should have an outdoor wedding, but it’s not the only one. For one thing, if your chosen location provides a large enough outdoor space and you’re willing to rent a tent; you can sidestep most weather snafus and still have a gorgeous romantic outdoor affair. (Imagine candlelight, flowers and opulent fabric draping the tent.)

Weather issues aside, outdoor weddings are a wonderful option whether you’re having a small, intimate celebration and don’t want a big room or hall, or if your guest list is large and you can’t find a spacious enough venue that you and your fiancé like. Outdoor locations can also hold sentimental value if, for example, the wedding is held in the backyard of your parents’ home or on the beach where you got engaged.

If you do choose an outdoor wedding, be aware of a few potential glitches. Choose shoes and a dress style that are comfortable regardless of the weather or flooring (grass lawns are difficult in stilettos), and avoid long, trailing hemlines that could be ruined by mud or damp grass. Keep in mind a wrap or jacket in a fabric warm enough for cool evening temperatures

In addition, you have to pay attention to how many chairs, tables, linens and gas heaters you may need to rent-along with portable toilets if there are no nearby bathroom facilities. If the wedding will be in a remote or off-the-beaten-path location, your caterer, band, photographer and videographer may charge extra to transport food and equipment.
